Through the glass... On the morning Tom Winters Shot his dog - TopicsExpress

Through the glass... On the morning Tom Winters Shot his dog ..I watched from the window. I did not want to. Above me the footsteps moved back and forth amid creaks and groans of the old wood ceiling. Papa was aware of what was happening outside...The cupboards opened and slammed shut in the kitchen...Emma was upset...the last time Emma was upset she broke out all the windows on the bottom floor of the house. A man came to fix them a few days later...He was tall , thin and skittery...His watery eyes darted constantly into the corners of the room...It kinda freaked me out ...made me keep looking around too.. The whine of the dog proceeded the shot...I could hear Tom sobbing clear in here...Poor Tom...Such a sad man.. Andy was Toms dog he took in ...I held him as a puppy and spent many a happy hour just walking with Andy...Down dusty roads ..Heat rising to the sky amid shimmering motes of sundancers. Andy...Andy was old now ...Too old...Tom was giving Andy the Ultimate gift...A swift and graceful Death. My Heart Went out to him... I wonder if ... BANG! The Whole world stopped for a heartbeat A Keening wail.... Emma stepped into the kitchen doorway ...then disappeared back inside.... Above me, ...Papas footsteps again began their shuffled slide ...he was pacing again. Tom Stared up at the old house....as he patted the shovel over his dogs grave ... Black dead glass reflected the overgrown yard stretching away through the trees...The drone of insects the only sound...The silence of the old house screamed...nothing moved but the clouds above.. in a slow swirling dance...He slung the shovel to his shoulder and started home.. At First I heard it as he hit the wood steps ...then across the long porch...the ecstatic clatter of claws seeking purchase on the slippery wood surface...I turned as He burst through the front door and knocked me clean over...my fingers sinking deeply into his thick fur...holding my face away from his slimey tongue...Andy Stop! HAHA...Im glad to see you too! The house was as dead as the bodies buried around it ...and Tom knew where those bodies were ...he put them there...and now they could have their dog back.
