Throw Back Thursday: The Bellamy Built on the eve of the Civil War, the Bellamy Mansion in Wilmington, North Carolina is one of the souths finest examples of antebellum architecture. Designed by yankees and built by free and enslaved artisans for a staunch confederate, the 22 room mansion is a mixture of neoclassical Greek Revival and Italianate styles. No expense was spared in the construction and many innovations such as a hot water heater and a master bathroom were included. Many of the techniques employed in the crafting of the home including the hand carved plaster moldings and the faux marbling of the cast iron fireplaces are lost arts.
