Throwback Friday: Another Christmas has come and gone. This one - TopicsExpress

Throwback Friday: Another Christmas has come and gone. This one definitely snuck up on most people I think. The Elf’s on the Shelves have all returned to the North Pole, Whew…. Well for this week’s walk down memory lane I thought I’d change it up a bit. With the minions on an extended weekend, I worked my way down to the files and came up with this undated photo from what looks like the late 1930’s or early 1940’s of downtown Buzzards Bay as seen from the tower of the railroad bridge. The view shows how busy the railroad industry was in the area. Buzzards Bay had always been central to the railroad on the Cape, serving as a central yard facility from the 1850’s through the 1950’s/60’s. In the first photo, this activity can be clearly seen. The buildings on Main Street behind the rail yard haven’t changed much however. Most of these buildings are still there today in one form or another. Notice most of the homes are confined to the area behind Main Street. The change this week is the second photo. This photo is one I took a couple of years ago from the same spot. It is amazing how much this area has changed over time. While the buildings haven’t really changed, the scale of change to the rail yard area is clearly noticeable. It is now the Buzzards Bay Park where for years we have enjoyed the summer concerts and where the Scallop Fest took up residence in September. While I haven’t provided much historical information in the wording of this post, I think the pictures speak volumes. Well, I hope you enjoyed this walk through time, or before and after adventure if you prefer. The weather still looks fairly warm for the end of December, so get out and enjoy it, and as always, Let’s be careful out there.
