Throwback Thursdays: 90th Anniversary Decade Count-up: 1930s The second Superintendent of the Refuge, Ray Steele, stands outside a cabin at Lawrence Lake just north of Brownsville, MN. Rangers would stay in Refuge cabins (which no longer exist) when fighting forest fires and performing other duties (1936). An excerpt from the 1932 Refuge Narrative describes the truck picture best, “As a measure of economy and to provide more efficient means of transportation of men and equipment, each Ranger has been provided with a one-half ton capacity panel-body delivery truck for his regular use.”
