#ThrowbackThursday 1993 Sophomore year of college. I was a vocal music major who hated theory and choir classes. During summer (when school was out), I would drive up to Northridge from Garden Grove for my voice lessons. Usually took me just under 90 minutes each way in a car with no AC, but I was still hungry enough at the time to do it. You meet the most interesting, larger than life characters in the world of classical singers. I guess if you think about how theatrical and larger than life opera is, its not surprising. Something about that world didnt feel like home to me, so I started turning my singing interest to jazz about then. And then, eventually, years later, I stopped performing altogether. Returning to singing/performing and writing some long form non-fiction are the two career what ifs left in my life. Ive dipped my feet in a few interesting pools including corporate life, law school, and running my own food business, and walked away with satisfaction at what Id learned and accomplished. Good thing I still have half a life ahead of me. :)
