#ThrowbackThursday Lying in bed this morning after waking, realizing what day it was, I thought about where I was 13 years ago. I had just came off the night shift, working as a clerk in the Emergency Room at Missouri Delta Medical Center. I stopped by my parents house for a bite to eat and to watch the morning news (being a broke teenager living on my own, I had no groceries at home or even a television, but luckily had parents close by keeping me fed ;-) ) While standing in the kitchen frying eggs, I remember turning to the big screen t.v. just as the clip of the first plane striking the World Trade Center played. Having just returned to Missouri after spending the summer studying acting in NYC, I was particularly engaged recalling the dominating daily presence of the two largest buildings I had ever seen in person and the role they played in the New York City landscape. Enthralled, I found myself glued to the tv for the next 2 1/2 hours until I fell asleep, sitting up, still in my work scrubs. Well, we all know the way things turned out, and it was indeed a very dark day in American History. However, the resilience of our country and the indomitable spirit to band together and continue pushing forward are what I recall most. Since that day, Ive been fortunate enough to spend 5 years living as a New Yorker as well as visiting over a dozen countries on 3 continents, and can say with certainty that theres no place like New York or America for that matter. Even with the problems that exist, ours is still the greatest country Ive seen, and a special thanks go out to all the service men & women who have fought or continue to serve and keep at bay the threat of something like this ever happening again. #Americans #neverforget #9/11
