Thumbs up: Desert Hot Springs needs a Walmart The Desert Sun Editorial Board 9:53 p.m. PDT July 11, 2014 Progress on a Walmart in Desert Hot Springs is good news. Not everybody is a fan of the retail behemoth, but there’s no question that it brings in revenue and offers competitive prices. It’s especially important for Desert Hot Springs to keep shoppers — and their sales tax dollars — in town. “Time and again it’s been demonstrated that when a Walmart moves into an area consumer prices drop, sales tax revenues increase and local retail grows and thrives,” said Chamber of Commerce President Heather Coladonato. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. owns property on Palm Drive at Camino Aventura and plans a 150,000-square-foot store. City leaders need to set a high standard, of course, but they should work hard to make this happen. petition supporting DHS-Walmart {we need more YES VOTES : change.org/.../desert-hot-springs-city-council.}.. desertsun/story/opinion/editorials/2014/07/12/desert-hot-springs-walmart/12563381/
