Thunderstorm risk. From later today into next week, low - TopicsExpress

Thunderstorm risk. From later today into next week, low pressure will centre itself just to the west of the UK. This will pull up warm, moist and unstable air from the south. A number of troughs will also push up from the south, bringing the risk of showers and longer spells of rain, some of which may be heavy and thundery. Scattered showers/thunderstorms may also develop over parts of the UK thanks to that combination of warmth, moisture and instability. Later today through tonight, a few scattered showers may develop across Wales, South West England, the Midlands, Northern England and Central and Eastern Scotland. Some of these may be thundery, but they will be very isolated so most places will avoid them. It is really Monday until at least Wednesday that we see the risk of thundery showers and longer spells of rain (Excluding the rain affecting north western parts of the UK today). During Monday, the main risk of thundery rain looks to be across Wales and western parts of England. Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Scotland, the Western Isles and the Northern Isles will also see showers and/or longer spells of rain, but the risk of thundery conditions looks lower here. Meanwhile, eastern and central parts of England, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands will hang onto the driest conditions and the longest spells of sunshine. A few scattered, potentially heavy and thundery showers may break out in these areas but most places will avoid them. From Tuesday the risk of thundery conditions will spread further north and east. That risk always higher the further south and west you are though. It is important to note that, given the nature of showers and of thunder, these conditions will be hit and miss with some places largely avoiding the showers and/or thunder. It is only possible to give the general areas at risk. Whether thundery showers/thunderstorms do develop in certain areas will be dependent on the movement of the various troughs and various other features, such as surface heating. It will also be feeling quite humid, and warm or even very warm where we get any sunshine, especially toward southern and eastern areas. The full week ahead forecast will be up later and I shall have more detailed forecasts on the risk of rain, showers, thunderstorms etc in each of the full daily forecasts posted on this page every night.
