Thursday 25th of September 27, 2014 was event filled for the Dr. Kodilichukwu Okelekwe led campaign team, our first point of call was the Peoples Democratic Party, Anambra state chapter unity and reconciliation rally which was orchestrated by the National working committee (NWC) of the party led by an erstwhile chairman of the party in the person of Senator Ahmadu Ali to settle and initiate peace amongst aggrieved members of the party. During this historic event, the chairman of the PDP Anambra state chapter Chief Ken Emeakayi introduced every distinguished member of the party and when it was the turn of our own Dr Kodilichukwu Okelekwe (Ubom Nibo), he took time to explain in details the numerous contributions of the gentleman par excellence to the growth of Africa’s biggest party in the state and the whole hall was sent into an applause mood when he announced that Dr. Okelekwe donated his complex worth several millions of naira to the presidency as the presidential campaign office towards the re-election of president Goodluck Jonathan. After this all important meeting was the rally proper, I wish to state that with proof that amidst the support and aspiration groups that were present at the Emmaus House Awka, ours stood out tall and colourful which even prompted a co-senatorial aspirant Dr Obiora Okonkwo (Dikeoha Idemilli) to acknowledge and encourage Ubom Nibo in the spirit of sportsmanship to keep the candle burning. The team then proceeded to Nibo, for a meeting with some party stakeholders in Awka South towards further consultations and strategies to ensure victory at both primary and general elections, at the brief but concise meeting, Dr. Okelekwe addressed party faithful and urged them especially those from Awka south which happens to be his abode and strong base to ensure our mandate is been delivered. One remarkable thing about this Nibo-born orator is that each time he gets the audience to speak; people always crave to listen, which one standout quality of an aspiring legislator. Whenever I liken him to John Fitzgerald Kennedy, am not far from the truth because communication was a great tool and skill a young enterprising Kennedy used to woo the electorate when he was contesting for a seat in the congress and it became instrumental to his election to the senate and finally as a president of the United states of America. Afterwards the team journeyed to Neni the Aniocha Local Government capital, as part of the consultations, White castle Hotel was the destination to pay a courtesy call visit to Chief Tony Enukeme (Onowu Neni & Ubom Neni) M/D Tonimas Group, makers of a wide range of petrochemical products ranging from Engine oil to Lubricants. Ndi igbo si ejebe ejebe aka eze, anaba anaba akal eze, which means when you embark on a journey you have to seek the king’s consent and vice versa when you are going back. The team was introduced to the host individually and the man of the moment Dr. Kodilichukwu Okelekwe presented him with kola before asking with all humility for his support towards the achievement this uphill task which is possible through God. The hotel tycoon couldn’t hide his happiness towards my principal, firstly for taking this bold step and recognizing him as an elder statesman who will play a pivotal role both during the primaries and general elections, secondly they both share similar background of poverty but now are two great men even the wealthy look up to and finally they are both namesake in terms of titled name, Dr Okelekwe is Ubom Nibo and Chief Enukeme is Ubom Neni. This Neni born billionaire oil magnet pledged his total support to this uncommon mandate and introduced to the team his son who is vying for a seat at the Anambra state house of Assembly. One stand out thing about Chief Enukeme is that he never finished a sentence without acknowledging the Almighty God and stating that without him nothing can happen but one with him has majority. My people as the day goes by events unfold, the future looks brighter and light is seen at the end of the tunnel, we are called to service and must do the honorable thing. We can’t sit back and watch situations helplessly, whenever we see something, we need to say something and if saying it is not enough we are called upon to do something. Governance is a process and institutions for everybody, especially democracy which is a type of governance which all must be partake. God is working signs and wonders, that which seems impossible is gradually changing course, people are beginning to embrace positive changes, like one of our campaign slogan which inscribes “The need for paradigm shift towards the positive”. Umuibe come 2015, God’s willing when we hit the red chambers, the voice of the common man will be heard, the journey to proper representation will begin and never will it be again in the history of Anambra central will there be a Senator who cannot pass a single bill nor sponsor a motion, rather whenever we turn to the media be it our television, radio, newspaper or social media, our senator will be in the news for positive reasons as well as delivering the dividends of democracy to his people. Let me reinstate my support for this mandate by saying, I am, have been and will always be a forefront champion of the emergence of Dr. Kodilichukwu Okelekwe as the senator representing Anambra central senatorial zone and I keep saying Who the cap fits let him wear it. Our voices will be heard on the floor of the senate.
