Thursday 29 May 2014 North Carolina Chapter No. 97, National Sojourners, celebrated their 85th anniversary this past Thursday night. On-hand to help the chapter celebrate was Past-Chapter President and Most Worshipful Grand Master of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in North Carolina, Dalton Mayo. Joining him were Johnny Davis, Most Illustrious Grand Master of Royal and Select Masons in North Carolina, and Ken Whichard, the Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar in North Carolina. Our National Sojourners Past National Presidents Lt Col (RET) Harry Sanders and Lt Col (RET) Andrew Drenkhahn were in attendance. Lady Sylvia Norris, the wife of our Regional Representative, offered the Toast to the Flag. Our Past National President Harry Sanders opened the night with a presentation on the true history of Americas National Anthem along with a short video produced at Fort McHenry to add emphasis to his speech. MW GM Dalton Mayo followed up with a great speech on the importance of patriotism and reminded the members of the Chapter to continue to promote it whenever possible. Our Chapter President John Chandler hosted the event at the Hope Mills Shrine Club and provided a truly exceptional diner which was served by our District’s DeMolay boys and Rainbow Girls. Both organizations received a $100 donation from Chapter No. 97 for their help throughout the night. Also providing support was the South View High School JROTC Drill Team which posted the Colors and provided a Rifle Drill Team demonstration. All of these young men and women did an outstanding job and made this an extra-special event for our guests. I would like to especially thank the Hope Mills Shrine Club President, WB William Washo, for allowing the Chapter to use the Shrine Club for the night and all the help his staff gave to make this event great. National Sojourner Chapter # 97 member and member of the Hope Mills Shrine Club, Steve Janos, did an excellent job preparing the meal. To top off a great night we had two members of the Armed Forces apply for membership with Chapter #97. nationalsojourners.org/index.php
