Thursday, January 23, 2014 Letter to the Deacons and Pastor of FBC Gulfport Re: Ageism Gentlemen, For some time, a serious problem has been allowed to persist in our church. Our church is segregating the elders from the youth and barring those who are led to serve in our worship ministry from serving in contemporary worship. While there may have been every good intention, the consequences have been, and continue to be, harmful. In the past, we enjoyed an integrated hour of Bible study; plus numerous fellowship activities. Here our families shared together; forming loving bonds which are far more important than anything we hope to accomplish with our current path. I weep for the loss to our children, elders and families of our church. Our children are cherished by our members through bonds created over years of love. Something as simple as breaking bread together is a thing of the past in our Church. In a very short time, elders in our Church only know our Youth from merely passing in the hallways. Some may cringe, or might be angered with the use of the term Ageism regarding our church. We should cringe; it quite frankly makes me sick to my stomach. We are hurting many; we are losing members and families. This must not stand.
