Thursday Sept. 25th Scripture – Luke 9: 7-9 Meanwhile Herod - TopicsExpress

Thursday Sept. 25th Scripture – Luke 9: 7-9 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about all that was going on; and he was puzzled, because some people were saying that John had risen from the dead, others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life. But Herod said, John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about? And he was anxious to see him. Observation: Same Herod who arrested and beheaded John the Baptist; Herod trapped by the daughter’s dance gave in to pressure after offering the daughter anything in return. Although impressed by John’s teaching and scared over his accusation, he did not want to lose face and had him beheaded. Narrative: Herod was powerful enough to be intrigued by the newest gig in town, in this case Jesus. This is not an uncommon view by many even today; seeing Jesus as a person of the past who was a great moral teacher but not the Son of God. Question: Is Jesus only a great moral teacher of the past for you?
