Thursday Thought The auditorium was pin drop silent. All eyes were on the chief guest, the Hon Minister to announce the successful entrepreneur of the year. There comes the announcement “Now the much awaited announcement comes to you. The entrepreneur of the year goes to Miss Anjali. The youngest ever in the history of this award.” The silence in the hall was broken with a loud applause of the jam packed audience. Anjali stood up from the front row and turned behind to waive her right hand to the public as acknowledgment. Anjali in a navy blue saree and matching accessories moved in a cat walk style towards the stage. She was holding the pleats of her saree in a manner that it did not get entangle in her sandals. She slowly walked towards the guest of honor to receive her award and the whole auditorium filled with the noise of clapping and gave her a standing ovation. The host asked series of questions and she went on answering with confidence. Ok Madam, last question, “Who has accompanied you?” “My Amma”, she told with great pride. “Can you please call her on to stage”, the host requested “Sure sir”, and she went half way to receive her Amma who was helped by the security staff till she was handed over to Anjali. “Why Anjali`s father didn’t turn up for the function?” Asked the host. Anjali and Amma went silent and tears started oozing out of Amma`s eyes. The host was taken aback and in his thoughts asked himself whether he didn’t ask any wrong question. Anjali came forward with the mike and said. “She is Appa as well as Amma , because my Appa left us the day I was born, the reason best known to him.” Any other question sir? That’s all Madam, Congratulations once again and we wish you a great success in you profession. Anjali asked the driver to take Amma home and she promised to reach home in an hour. A tired Anjali reached home at the promised time. Amma opened the door with a smiling face and told her in a low voice “Your Appa has come.” Appa? Anjali give her a half-teasing smile and went inside. Appa was seated in the sofa staring at his mobile phone. As soon as Anjali entered the room he stood up and said, “ Anjali, I am your Appa” “Appa? Yes I had seen you in a photograph shown by my Amma. But Appa, Why have you come now when we have almost adjusted to our life without you. You were not with us when we missed you the most.” “When I was in play school, I used to see all my friends holding the right index finger of their Appa while going to school. I missed your index finger at that time, Appa.” When the school leaves all of my friends father used to come to pick them. I used to see their Appa lifting them with both of his hands. I missed your hands at that time, Appa. When their Appa rubbed his cheeks with theirs, they use to enjoy the tickling feeling and used to laugh loudly. At that time I use to miss your cheeks, Appa. When all Appas accompany their children to exam centers during board exams and motivate them to boost their morale. I missed your motivational words, Appa. Today I received the prestigious award and I missed an Appas hug and caressing hands over my hair on my achievement. The first and ever lasting hero of a female child, yes it’s her Appa. “Appa, I am grown up now and probably I don’t need the emotional support of my parents as I needed in my childhood.” Appa was unmoved and was in his own world of thoughts. Anjali and Amma looking at each other blankly but their thought striking in the same direction. Is he here for a patch up????????????????
