Thursday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time. Year A. Reflection by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okami ( Ilorin Diocese ) Matt. 7:21-29 Offer Him Sincerity, not Lip Service One of our class-mates has this slogan this world is deep o! To a great extent, this is true. There is too much deception in this world. Someone stole my handset sometime ago and was also helping me look for it; helping me compose names of possible suspects. A woman poisoned the husband and was accepting peoples sympathy and raining curses on those who did. We can say more and more. Sometimes we even deceive ourselves. We lie to ourselves and establish the lie so much so that we start believing it ourselves. Ironically, since weve succeeded in deceiving ourselves, most times we imagine that we can also deceive God; pretending to be righteous but full of insincerity. Somebody comes to Church, waves to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, lights a candle at the Adoration chapel and waits for divine mercy prayers by 3pm. Yet such a person still visits shrines and uses charms. Somebody prays in tears, sings in the Spirit, is punctual at mass and loves the rosary, but enjoys sin and makes no efforts to end it. Dear friends, we need to again remind ourselves this morning that God cant be deceived - Lord, Lord at the same time sin, sin. All God wants is sincerity. Love Him truly and keep His words. That is the road to pleasing God and obtaining salvation. Any religious exhibition without genuine love of God and obedience to his will is customised deception I leave you this morning with the words of St John (1Jn 2:4) Whoever says, I have come to know Him, but does not obey his commandments, is a liar, and in such a person the truth does not exist; Are you a liar? Prayer Father I make a resolve this day not to pay lip service worship to You, but to truly love You above all else, and my neighbour as myself, Amen.
