Thursday will be a busy day on campus with poetry and book readings, and a presentation in the South Mountain Partnership Speaker Series. A reading of Unsustainable: Re-imagining Community Literacy, Public Writing, Service-Learning, and the University is planned for 4 p.m. in the Cora I. Grove Spiritual Center. Participating are Dr. Laurie JC Cella, associate professor of English and director of first-year writing and co-editor of the book; Dr. Jessica Restaino, director of first-year writing at Montclair University and co-editor of the book; and Dr. Karen Johnson, director of the Writing Studio at Shippensburg and a contributor to the book. At 6:30 p.m. in the Spiritual Center, faculty and students will participate in “United in Verse: A Reading of Poetry in the World’s Languages.” Each participant will read or recite a poem in a language other than English, will read or recite a translation, and will share his or her own thoughts about the significance of the poem. Dr. Steve Burg of the history and philosophy department will present “Hallowed Grounds, Endangered History: Preserving the Historic African American Burial Grounds of the South Mountain Region” at 7 p.m. in Old Main Chapel.
