Thursday’s Spotlight…Getting to know Clarksville Furniture & Flooring Co., Inc.! What you might find very interesting is the history of this store. Talking with owner, Larry Kindley, Jr., who has been working here for over 33 years about how it all began, is fascinating. Once located where Hite’s is today, the furniture and flooring business was incorporated in 1926 and as far as we could gather, this is the longest running business in Clarksville to date. In 1968 they moved to their current location at 601 Virginia Ave. Even more intriguing is longtime bookkeeper & secretary, Francis Vaughan, who has been working here for a staggering 70 years. Wow truly amazing! Actually most of the five employees that work there have also have a long work history here, talk about employee retention. I asked Larry what he enjoys most about what he does, his reply was “meeting the customers that come to the store.” One thing is obvious with knowing Larry, he a salt of the earth kind of guy and that is evident through the longevity of his employees that work there and his involvement with the community. So if you are looking for furniture or flooring or even custom blinds in your home, this is the place to shop. More history: Clarksville Furniture Company’s history began in 1852 when Franz Julius Liipfert , a German immigrant, was hired to come to Mecklenburg County to build cabinets for Randolph-Macon College in Boydton, Virginia. Liipfert later moved to Clarksville and began making furniture. This was the beginning of the present day Clarksville Furniture and Flooring Company.
