Performed annually by the Christchurch City Choir since the debut of acclaimed Music Director Brian Law in 1991, this timeless masterpiece has become a staple of the Christchurch Christmas season. As retirement beckons, the 2013 performance of Messiah will be Brian’s last, and will be a fitting finale to mark the end of his 22-year tenure with the Choir. With the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the Christchurch City Choir will perform with an exceptional cast of singers, soprano Francesca Lombardi-Mazzulli, countertenor Russell Harcourt, tenor Christopher Bowen and bass Jonathan Lemalu, in the hallowed halls of Christ’s College. Handel’s Messiah stands as one of the supreme musical creations of all time, unsurpassed in lyricism, simplicity and profundity.
