Tijani: From Fadama to Agric Ministry… Bukar Tijani had been part of the present administration since July 2011 and over the period exhibited high sense of purpose in the discharge of his official assignment. As a politician who is well grounded in the agricultural sector’s evolution over the years with a strong reach to the grassroots, he provided the needed implementation impetus to the ongoing Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) by serving as the interface between farmers and other operators in the implementation of the agenda, particularly in the Northern geo-political zone. Tijani was believed to be passionate about the Growth Enhancement Support scheme and over the past few months crisscrossed the Northern geopolitical landscape to ensure farmers get their inputs. The past two and a half years of his tenure had made him garner experience especially with his employment as the arrow head of the National Coordinator of the Fadama Programme and National Programme on Food Security. He did a lot in areas of mobilising farmers across the country for the ATA which is globally reputed as the most successful component of the Federal Government’s Transformation Agenda On assumption of office, Tijani said he would support both senior and junior staff of the ministry to work towards reducing hunger and poverty by 2015 and achieving the Vision 20:2020. He did not only show the spirit to make the promise come true but also worked, in collaboration with the Minister, to ensure that farmers get what they required to achieve food security in the country. It is, however, believed that his removal may not be unconnected with the political undercurrents within the ruling party and subterranean moves towards the 2015 elections. Tijani is from Borno State and may be nursing political ambition, an issue that pitch him against politically more powerful foes at the highest level of government, who may also be nursing similar ambitions.
