Time changes things, and in eight months, quite a bit can change, especially when storms come through. It made tonights QuestGaine interesting to say the least. Started at 7 with a few checking the BOM site before we headed off. Main storm front was supposed to miss us, but as we started, the lightning didnt seem to follow the weather forecast. Got to my first check point ok, not far behind some of the experienced runners and headed for my second. The odd part about QG is that as everyone takes a different path, your never sure you have chosen right. Got to my second point as one of the others was leaving, but where was the point... I looked and looked for a flag pole in someones yard.. buggered if I could find it. Took off to the third point, and after going down the wrong street, finally found it. checked my mobile for the time... 25 mnutes down of the 1 hour and only 2 points marked off. ran for the third and found it was down a long path in a park.. trees still down from the storms made it interesting to find the path. Got it, thats three... and probably time to start heading back. Check the map and find a point to pass on my return journey, all down hill back to HQ. Run down past it, got it now to head home. Check the clock... 20 minutes to go?? hmmm maybe I can grab another point on the way. Check the map, there is one in the park ahead so head in that direction. Get to the park and..... its closed due to storm damage, cant get to the point without getting over the fencing... that points out. Decide to run to another just near by even though its low points... get there and... the shop whos phone number we are to get... has closed and the windows cleared of the phone number... Just not my night tonight for QG but still had fun, and did some hard running. It may not always go your way but at least usually the maps are fresh. When we got back the issues I had, the others guys had too The flag pole was missing, the phone number missing, and had I gotten past the fencing... the check point in the park was missing anyway. Certainly starting to enjoy these runs and hope others might join me on them one evening. Good fun.
