Time for Robin related facts: Each robin has a unique breast - TopicsExpress

Time for Robin related facts: Each robin has a unique breast pattern, and can (with difficulty) be recognised individually. The Robin pictured I named Braveheart and I have photographed and observed him for 3 years now. Robins are omnivorous, eating everything from fruit to spiders.Their most prefered food is however mealworms. Robins will invariably defend their territories from other robins, sometimes fighting to the death. Most pairs of robins will try and raise as many as three broods of chicks a year, but some manage as many as five. Nearly three quarters of robins in Britain die before they are one year old, either caught by predators or unable to fend for themselves. Ten per cent of older robins die defending their territory. Both parents take responsibility when feeding and looking after their chicks until they are two weeks old when they can fly and become fully independent.
