Time for another highly opinionated rant. As always, read st your own risk. One thing I am getting really sick of hearing is this: Metal is about blahblahblah, and blahblahblah. Metal is about the big middle finger. Anything else beyond that is subjective, and anyone who tries to say otherwise is full of it. I started listening to it because it spoke to me in ways no other style of music had. It brimmed with the spirit of rebellion, strength and most importantly, catharsis. What I cannot stand is other people preaching at me and others about their overinflated sense of what metal is and isnt about. Metal was never supposed to be agreeable. As the extreme extension of rock n roll, at its best it is dangerous and uncompromising. I understand that the level of elitism has reached absurd and unrealistic levels (especially in the extreme scenes) but without a certain amount of quality control, it will become flooded with a sea of mediocrity. With that in mind, if people choose not to listen to bands that do not resonate with them, that is their choice. To demand otherwise goes against the very essence of art: if you like it, its awesome. If you dont, forget about it. The relationship between the artist and the listener is quite simple in that regard. The only reason a band should even be playing is for the joy of playing music, and if a handful of people dont enjoy what theyre doing, WHO CARES? They will still play anyways, or at least they should. If you got this far, thanks for reading :)
