Time once again for some Olympic observations. Loved the USA hockey throwback jerseys. Same ones worn at the 1960 games. Another act that reinforces the notion how great the Games can be. The Swiss winner of the mens 15k cross country event waited 30 minutes to shake the hand of the skier that finished last, the only athlete on the Peru team who skied with broken ribs. Gestures like these are common place at the games. Is Steven Holcomb the greatest bobsled driver in US history after breaking another 62 year US medal drought in 2- man ? Name another driver ! I rest my case. And Im sure BMW is having a huge party at the home office because of the sled they designed! We rule ice dancing ! And I am glad that NBC broadcasts so much figure skating. They want that female demographic. And it worked. Maggie Carideo watches with me every night ! I did like the young pair of US Ice Dancers who skated to a Michael Jackson medley. The music is getting better. I also realized that it doesnt take winning a medal to become crowd favorites. Who wasnt rooting for the Jamaican bobsled team again! They even have their own song. A catchy little tune called Turn Right. So great to see the snow fall at the mountains today. Made it look like a real Winter Games. But I do remember being in Vancouver in 2010 with fog delaying Alpine events and watching cross country in the pouring rain. It happens. Your trivia for tonight. The US has hosted 4 Winter Games: 1932 and 1980 in Lake Placid. 1960 in Squaw Valley and 2002 in Salt Lake City. Did you hear about the story of the European Salt expert called in by the Sochi organizers to save the Alpine course? They had tons of salt flown in from France. Didnt even know there was such a thing as a salt guru ! Saw a great line on the internet today. Bob Costas looks much better now then he did as the stoned teenager last week ! And lastly the Olympics are really just a test event for the Paralympic Games. 16 days to Opening ! Enjoy the hockey everyone !
