Prior to her studies at the Conservatorium, Rachael studied piano with Inna Kogan and attained her Licentiate of Music Australia at the age of fourteen. Now a scholar on the Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship, Rachael has progressed into the advanced stream of Music Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium. Rachael won the 2013 Ruby C Cooling Prize at the Queensland Conservatorium and was a prize-winner in the recent Sydney Eisteddfod. Under the tutelage of Inna Kogan, Rachael competed successfully in various eisteddfods, state and national piano competitions. She won the Gladys Payne Piano Bursary (2010 Ipswich Eisteddfod) and the 4MBS Performance Award (2011 Brisbane Eisteddfod), which included her performance of Chopin’s Scherzo No 1 on 4MBS Classic FM 103.7. Rachael was also runner-up in the 2009 and 2011 Queensland Piano Competition. On a national scale, Rachael won the 2008 Junior National Finals of the Bernstein Piano Competition (Melbourne), and was the 2010 and 2011 runner-up in its Senior National Finals, broadcast on 3MBS Radio. As an emerging young artist, Rachael has given frequent recitals at Theme & Variations and 4MBS Studios. She was also one of the soloists for Mozart’s Concerto for 2 Pianos in E flat, conducted by John Curro, at the All Hallows’ School 150th Anniversary Celebrations in 2011. Rachael’s dedication and disciplined approach towards her music studies was rewarded with a Griffith Award for Academic Excellence. Her altruistic involvement in charity concerts earned her the 2011/2012 Quest Newspaper Youngstar Award winner for the Arts/Education category and a place in the Griffith Honours College. Rachael has also attained her Associate of Music on violin and was a member of Queensland Youth Orchestras for five years. Rachael is particularly excited about this wonderful opportunity to perform Saint Saens’ Carnival of the Animals with Queensland Philharmonia in the 2014 season. The piano parts present an interesting challenge to both the pianists and she looks forward to collaborating with the orchestra to create an intellectual, entertaining performance on the 17th of August.
