My family immigrated to this country and we asked for no handouts, learned the language, worked hard and valued higher education. We must honor that history of immigration and ensure our laws are respected and enforced. Our current immigration system is broken and needs repair. There are various congressional committees and groups of lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and in the House and Senate who are working on legislative proposals. We are still in the very early stages of this effort, and as I review proposals that come out of this process, please know that I will keep your views in mind.
