Time to share another of my it could only happen to you, Glynnis stories: For those of you that dont use Demelza Hospice Care For Children you may not be aware that we can book our children in for the nights respite that we need... similar to booking a hotel room (but not quite ...note to self) ...it is extremely rare for a stay to be cancelled...but when talking through with some other parents this week we touched on my inexperence in the booking system when we were new 8 or 9 years ago and it reminded me that in many of our businesses we use systems, acronyms and nicknames for things that we understand....but we rarely stop to explain them to the newbies in our team / business ...the terms DSU, retention, COP and OOS are all things that we band about....whilst the newbies just make up their own translation of what they think they mean until they accidentally stumble across the true meaning in a light bulb moment some months after their induction (honestly I REALLY thought it was called a COP because I met soooo many policemen there on my first day in the business!) Sorry....I digress (again) so heres the Very short story: Ring Ring Ring Ring.... Hello Glynnis Speaking..... Hi, is that Elkes Mum, Its Demelza House care team here......just wondering what time you will be collecting Elke today TODAY????? ...oh crumbs no, Im sure its tomorrow were coming to get her....I cant possibly collect her today...Were in Iceland Oh, Thats fine, it doesnt matter what time this afternoon, I was just calling for an idea so we can have her ready for you, you just finish your shopping and pop along afterwards HUGE PAUSE . Im not sure you understand....I mean Im in Iceland the Country !
