Times of India reported on 6 Oct 2014 JAMMU/NEW DELHI: Five civilians, including two women, were killed and at least 34 people injured as Pakistani troops shelled villages in Arnia sub-sector of Jammu district close to the international border on Eid ul-Zuha on Monday, the 11th violation of the ceasefire agreement with India in October alone. The civilian death toll was the highest in a single day since 2003. The last time such heavy casualty occurred was between July and September 2012 when 15 villagers were killed over several weeks of shelling. The dead included a 13-year-old girl. Several houses and buses were damaged as people going about their daily jobs were suddenly in line of furious bombardment. Blood-splattered terraces and street-sides told the tale after mortar shells rained down on residential areas with panic-stricken people running for safety. Pakistani troops also fired heavily at forward outposts along the LoC in Poonch. The unprovoked attacks drew strong reactions from defence minister Arun Jaitley and home minister Rajnath Singh.
