Tip of the Week: How to Snag that Interview! Its a dog-eat-dog job market. When it comes to finding the perfect job, the competition is fierce and it seems that all the stars need to be aligned in order to simply have your resume reviewed. In a recent Job tip, we discussed how to ace your job interview. Today we will share some brief tips on what arguably is the more challenging task. That is, landing the interview. Here are a few dos and donts to follow: Do submit a resume that includes relevant work experience and buzz words derived from the original job listing to show youre a good match Dont slack on the job application. Both your resume as well as the application should have thorough information to ensure youre not filtered out by an employers applicant tracking system Do include a cover letter and any other sample of work that pertains to the position youre applying to. This will help build the case that youre qualified and eager to obtain a new role Dont delay applying. Hiring managers may experience resume fatigue and as a result, stop reviewing applications after they feel they found a sufficient amount of candidates to invite in for the interview. When you find the job you want, apply right away! Do network. It may sound cliché, but referrals are the #1 source of hiring so networking will surely help you find new opportunities you otherwise wouldnt have known about. Bonus Tip: After applying to jobs, review your LinkedIn connections to see if you or someone youre connected with works at any of the companies you submitted an application to. Then shmooze your way in to the interview chair!
