Tips and Tricks for The Flame: As with any move where arms are lifted above your head, there is a tendency to let your shoulders rise. Nothing looks more stressed out and nervous than a dancer whose shoulders are up around her ears. As you move your arms through this movement imagine that there is a string attached to the top of your head pulling your spine straight and your whole body up; but also imagine barbells resting on each shoulder keeping your shoulders down. Not just as you dance, but in your daily life too, try to think about allowing your arm-pits to breathe – this keeps your shoulders down, spine straight and chest open so you will look and feel more relaxed and confident.
