Tipton open pre-season campaign with stalemate Saturday July 13 2013 Tipton’s 2013-2014 preseason campaign with an excellent workout against West Midlands Regional League (Premier) outfit Black Country Rangers. In sweltering heat on neutral territory at the Dormston School, neither side was able to make a breakthrough as both managers took the opportunity to experiment with staff and personnel. Tipton utilised no fewer than 22 players in the match with a combination of players who played under new boss Ian Rowe at Gornal Athletic last season and a number of new faces including signings Danny Crudgington, Justin Nixon and Liam Bood. In a game which match fitness and shaking off rust were the primary concern, there was little in the way of goalmouth action although the J W Hunt Cup winners looked most likely to break the deadlock. It required a good save from Matt Martin between the sticks for Tipton to prevent Josef Jakob from grabbing a winner in the second half while new boy Liam Bood came closest to scoring for Tipton. Ultimately, both sides will have been happy with a robust work out, despite the scorching temperatures. Tipton’s pre-season campaign continues on Saturday July 20 as Tipton host Midland Combination outfit Pelsall Villa at Tipton Sports Academy.
