Title: Regional Field Coordinators, STEM, Egypt -------------------------------------------------------- World Learning is implementing The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Public Secondary Schools project in Egypt through funding provided by USAID. With this project USAID aims to create access for talented students in Egypt to quality education through integrated curriculum, project based learning, real world applications, critical thinking and a pioneering spirit. This initiative directly supports a new vision for Egypt as a country equipped with both the human capital and institutional resources to not only compete, but excel in the international marketplace. The STEM Schools will serve as incubators for future leaders and innovators who will have the potential to advance the forefront of research and development initiatives that fuel scientific invention and generate employment opportunities and economic growth for Egypt. The Egyptian Ministry of Education hopes to transform its current STEM High Schools into a collaborative STEM network covering the country with one school in each governorate. Presently, there are two existing schools supported by the project in Giza for Boys, Cairo for Girls and new schools expected to open September 2014 in Alexandria, Daqahleya and Assiut governorates. World Learning is looking to hire one or two local STEM experts as Regional Field Coordinators, based on need, who can coordinate the startup and implementation of these new schools in the above mentioned governorates. Egyptian nationals are highly encouraged to apply. No expatriate allowances/benefits will be provided. Applicants are expected to perform the following duties: 1. Manage project implementation activities and provide support to overall project based out of Cairo 2. Represent the project on a day to day basis to all stakeholders including the schools, GOE representatives, and partners and utilizing strong and successful oral and written communication in English and Arabic 3. Coordinate in-country and US-based teacher training and support English language training integration into schools 4. Observe and coach classroom teachers performing effective practices 5. Support school leadership development 6. Meet weekly with the principal(s) to discuss implementation and logistical needs 7. Meet with individual or groups of teachers to plan instruction and/or solve specific instructional and assessment issues or problems 8. Ensure the capacity to deliver professional development, curricula, and advisory training in-country and online 9. Report on day to day project implementation in each school 10. Support M&E processes with feedback to monitor and measure impact 11. This position will report to the Chief of Party The applicant should at least possess the following qualifications: · M.Sc. or M.Ed. required · Strong English and Arabic communication skills – verbal and written · Minimum 10 years of experience in formal or informal education teaching science or math · Familiarity with the development of curriculum, and creating and delivering teacher professional development in a secondary/high school education environment · Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogy and inquiry-based, hands-on education and effective STEM-based learning · Understanding of the varied landscapes of basic science research · Highly skilled at building relationships · Embodies a compelling combination of personal humility and professional will, affirmative, humble and deeply respectful of classroom teachers and school principals · Well-developed skills that reduce the teachers’ fears and hesitations as they learn to teach a new curriculum · Thrives as part of a complex collaboration to improve STEM teaching and learning, a vital link in the design and implementation chain · Excellent STEM teacher able to provide model lessons in teachers’ classrooms while adhering to the curriculum and instructional model · Flexible professional to meet the changing needs of schools as they implement the Integrated STEM Curriculum · Ambitious change agent not afraid of new ideas, content challenges and willing to do “what it takes” to improve the education experience in schools · Understands the design process as the basic fundamental construct for STEM education and is able to communicate this to teachers · Believes that a project-based approach to teaching and learning enables students to apply their understanding of scientific phenomena and mathematics logic in novel ways to achieve mastery · Demonstrates the ability to use a variety of technology platforms that support project-based and mastery-driven STEM education To apply: Please visit our website worldlearning.org/ and click on the employment tab to submit your application.
