Tittle song of the 1985 album, originally planned as a concept album, tensions erupted within the band when three of the original songs was replaced with songs co-written by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics fame. and another 3 songs were dumped. while cutting the opening track Rebels, Petty became frustrated and punched a wall, severely breaking his left hand. Subsequent surgery on his hand left him with several pins, wires and screws to hold his hand together. You can hear the cut songs Trailer, Big Boss Man, Crackin Up, The Image of Me and The Apartment Song. on the compilation Box set Playback. Even though the biggest hit Dont Come Around Here No More, was one of the songs co-written by Stewart, the quiet sincerity of the title cut and the themes running through the original concept songs resonates with us southern boys.
