To God Be The Glory! The following is an update on Ken Knudsen written by his wife Dee. ==DAY 239 - Saturday, July 20, 2013 ..... Ken seems to be improving with each new day! They took him off the ventilator of Monday and has not needed to be on any oxygen since Tuesday. He is still receiving nutrition from a feeding tube, but is also able to eat whatever sounds good to him. The two chest drains have been removed, as well as one of the drains that was put in his abdomen after the surgery. The remaining abdomen drain may be removed on Monday. He was taken off of the continual dialysis machine yesterday, and the plan is to try the sled dialysis machine today to see how he tolerates it. This machine will pull fluid off his body much faster, 2 to 4 hours, and the greatest benefit being he does not need to be connected to the machine as long and will be able to move around easier. His blood pressure has remained low, but is not requiring any blood pressure medicines. He is very thin, we joke that if they pull anymore fluid off of him, he is just going to disappear. The doctors continue to be impressed by his miraculous recovery from the surgery. His biggest challenge now seems to be; greatly improving his nutritional status/body weight and rehabilitating his body. Many have asked how the kids are doing, so thought I would address that. They seem to be doing well. They come to visit their dad at the hospital when able. They are all pretty independent and responsible, which makes it much easier on us. Kyle has been a big help in running the other kids places when needed. He has also stepped up and has worked hard to keep the lawn and yard work done. Kailee has been very helpful with the laundry and housework. The younger two need a little more direction, but help around the house and care for our pets. I tease Danielle that she has become "little orphan Dannie" of the neighborhood, often times hanging out and eating meals with one of our neighbor families, they are all wonderful! The kids have all remained very active with their sports, music and other activities, thanks to the help of family and friends that have pitched in with rides, meals, etc., which has allowed them to continue with their passions. So grateful that God has allowed Ken to remain with us! We realize he still has a long road ahead of him, but we will continue to take it a day at a time! Our love to all of you!
