To Whom It May Concern, I am writing this because my father Andrew Pettress of Pontiac MI, now residing in The Regency Waterford Nursing Home is being abused and being taken advantage of. I was notified in October of my fathers situation by someone I thought to be my step-sister Debra Haynes. At that time my sister Jessica Pettress was taking my fathers social security check every month and making purchases such Red Lobster dinners, car washes, shopping sprees, etc... None of the items purchased went towards my father care. I came to Michigan and began to get things in order for my father only to find out that Jessica was not the only person stealing from my 82 year-old father. The reason Debra Haynes wanted Jessica Pettress out of the picture was for her own selfish gains. I spoke with Debra several times and was promised that since I lived in New York and could not take care of my fathers day to day needs that she would take care of him. As I sat in Pontiac, MI probate court on November 5, 2014 to gain guardianship of my father and his affairs I realized how wrong I was to depend on some who was my so called family. Once I retained guardianship I began to clear up all of my fathers affairs, first stop was Bank of America (BoA) on Saginaw in Downtown Pontiac. While there I spoke to Tim the banks manager when I found out that my fathers account balance was $-36.98. You could imagine my surprise because there should have been at least a savings of $2400.00 which would have been 2 months of his social security benefits. I did not understand this until Tim explained that Debra Haynes was placed on his account as Power of Attorney(POA). As I explained the entire situation to Tim he stated that he believed everything that Debra had done was in the best interest of my father. That statement was the farthest thing from the truth. Debra basically turned around to do the same thing Jessica did STEAL from an 82 year old man. After closing my fathers account I went to the hospital to notify them that I had retained guardianship. While at the hospital I was told that the last 2 times my father was admitted to the hospital there was a Do Not Resesitate (DNR) order put on my fathers chart and that Debra thought it would be best to send my father to a hospice facility instead of him going back to the nursing home. This was the second sign that Debra was not taking care of my father and in fact could careless about his health or well being. After leaving the hospital I felt I could leave Michigan knowing that everything would run smoothly with my fathers affairs. I returned to New York and went to the Social Security Administration, once again more layers of this onion revealed itself. Debra had now changed the direct deposit account for my fathers social security benefits to her personal bank account. Now working with social security administration to get this taken care of. My only question is how could one person do all this damage without consent of the individual? or an actual legal POA? Were these things done as favors for Debra because she is well known in the community? Are there no checks and balances for these businesses? Does BoA allow anyone to walk into their branches and do banking in someone elses name? Do hospitals not check with Nursing Home Facilities or the individuals social worker before letting someone who is not legally related to the sick and shut in to make life ending decisions? Maybe you can help me because I have hit a brick wall with both Bank of America and the Social Security Administration, at this point it seems as if everyone is trying to coverup their mistakes by not releasing the information I am requesting.
