To Whom it may Concern: I have been very impressed by Robert Pacelli and his dogged commitment to restoring the microclimate habitat in the PG Monarch Butterfly Colony. From what I have been told, the butterflies are responding positively and that seems to be the acid test of success. He cares deeply about the future of the colony and is actively involved in his efforts of education and effective replanting and vegetation management.. Robert copied me the below which sums up much of his continued efforts which, together with what he has told me, seem very auspicious. Lincoln Brower O: City Council and citizens of Pacific Grove, California , 93950. The purpose of this communication is the replanting of the Monarch Grove Sanctuary on Ridge Road in Pacific Grove. The replanting program was begun in 2010 by Bob Pacelli and approved by Pacific Grove City Council. It involved the placing of boxed Blue Gum trees (Eucalyptus globula) to fill in wind tunnels created by extensive unauthorized pruning in the sanctuary. The boxed trees were an immediate unqualified success for the monarchs by increasing their numbers to five thousand and giving them overnight clustering locations. During the ensuing three years the trees have become more valuable to maintaining the micro climate for the monarchs over wintering season. However, recent additional pruning on properties surround the sanctuary and also inside the sanctuary have brought us again to the brink of non- existence. The 3 years of Photograph and video studies along with the growing # of Monarchs have shown us We must continue with Bob Pacellis program to increase the biomass along the fence line. Acquiring and planting the sapling trees must be done at once along all the fence line....... Sincerely, Lincoln Brower Professor Lincoln P.
