To ___. A year of dreaming. I caught a glimpse of weakness once. Your stubborn tears falling like newly minted coins Then choked back for fear of exposure. A cashing in of foreign currency. Now nameless, anonymous and dead, Autumn leaves have fallen in your personal rainstorm And turn violent in the whipping wind A record on repeat, repeat, repeat. To _______. A year of dreaming. And not a word was uttered between us About what lies uncovered and obvious. I dare not bring my mind to your skin And the rough, sandpaper scratches on mine Hold fast like wounds that only serve to remind us Of what is love in an open horizon. Of what desert promises bring to that western landscape Painted hot and salt spray from your parted lips Ready to leap. L. Christie
