To adress my previous post, my three picks would be , Cus Damato : Cus was known for taking a spark and turning it into an inferno. He made a special connection with each and every fighter and could really find out what made you tick and would build on every strength and hammer out every chink in the armor. With cus everything had to be flawless and he had a system in place that insured perfection (or as close to it as possible) could be achieved. Being someone who has faced a height disadvantage in every single athletic endeavor Ive ever been in , Id love to be able to pick his brain on the cat and mouse game that comprises tall vs short fighting. Dan Gable: This guy needs no introduction. Gable had a simple more is more approach to training and coaching that was demonstrated through his impressive wrestling career and the Gable era in which he coached college and Olympic wrestlers. Me Being someone who doesnt possess any natural talent what so ever but an above average work ethic, I think Dan Gables system of wrestling and day to day life as an athlete could translate well to my career. Helio Gracie: Now I know the game has evolved light years beyond what Helio created, but i think there are a lot of mental concepts and trains of thought that helio took to his grave with him. Things you cant simply re create by using a dummy or put on YouTube or in a book. Things you have to understand face to face from the source, Helios system was based systematically on fighting , fighting bigger , stronger men and not only defending yourself , but ultimately prevailng. I know there is the so called Gracie filter in place, but Id love to hear first hand what the thought process and trials and errors that make up the pre cursor to the gracie filter.
