To all better together activists and all other No campaign organisations Please see below correspondence from West Lothian Council I would reiterate that we must ensure that no person associated with the no campaign should put up any posters or stickers on any council property including lamp posts Please ensure that you refrain from doing this Thanks I am writing to remind you that West Lothian Council has changed its policy regarding the display of campaign material on road lighting columns at the time of election or referendum polls. The new policy prohibits the display of such material on any council property including road lighting columns and road signage. This council does not allow campaigners or political parties to put campaign stickers connected to the referendum on any council property. It has been brought to my attention that a number of complaints have been received by the council in relation to campaign material being displayed on council property. I am writing to each referendum agent in West Lothian to ask that you convey the council’s policy to your supporters so as to avoid displaying referendum material on council property. Removal of stickers is resource intensive and costly. Please be aware that it is the council’s intention to recover the costs of removal of the material from campaign groups where practicably possible. I appreciate that campaign material may be being put on council property by individuals or organisations who are not registered campaigners operating in West Lothian, however, any assistance you can give in this matter would be appreciated.
