To all my Stonewall friends, this Saturday, April 5 is election day. Amongst other things, we will be voting for mayor. There are two candidates. One of the candidates recently mailed out information about himself. He has lived in Stonewall for 15 years. Included in the mailing a list of his “qualifications.” The list was composed solely of his involvement in Caddo Parish. He has not gotten involved in Stonewall or DeSoto Parish. The other candidate, Charles Waldon, is currently our mayor. His involvement in Stonewall and DeSoto Parish includes, but is not limited to: 6 years as Road Commissioner 4 years as Council Member Original Bee Gum Committee Member President of DeSoto Parish Chamber of Commerce President of Water Works 1 Vice President of Industrial Board Board Member of DeSoto Parish Office of Community Development Board Member of DeSoto Regional Hospital Board Member of Coordinating Development Corporation Advisory Council for North DeSoto School Regularly attends North DeSoto Water & Police Jury meetings Additionally, he has worked hard and diligently for Stonewall during these last four years as mayor. His accomplishments during that time include, but are not limited to: *Obtained property for clinic & construction (currently in the process of hiring a doctor) *Completion of Highway 3276 *Community Center renovation *Repair of Walking track at the Park *Repairs to Pavilion at the Park *Brought Council on Aging & Clerk of Court to Stonewall *Multiple Grants for North DeSoto Water System for new wells and water line upgrades. *Louisiana Economic Development-Development Ready Community Certification. *Cathey Acres Subdivision *Worked with multiple new Businesses to come to Stonewall. (Mansfield Auto World, Sonic, Pizza Hut, Community Bank and Grocery Stores) *Annexation to I-49 *Rented unused Office space for income to the Town. *Update and maintain the Town Website and facebook, ( thetownofstonewall and facebook/askthestonewallmayor). *Cut staff and expenses to save the Town money *New Town Limit Signs *Working on: Flood Control Grants, Trails Grant, Street Repair Grants, Outside exercise equipment grant (for the park) & Broadband Grant. When you vote on Saturday, don’t forget the Mayor’s accomplishments. Don’t forget that he has worked hard for Stonewall. Don’t forget that he has helped make Stonewall a wonderful place to live
