To all my english speaking friends. You may be wondering why is Andres F Herrera so active lately on Facebook. I normally do not talk about politics on social media but now I feel I have to. As you know I was born in Colombia and most of my family still lives there. We have a President there that has been talking about peace with the guerrillas (FARC), in La Habana, Cuba (because in Cuba apparently the government can fix the problems of the world, while they deprive their own citizens from freedom)..These guerrillas are still killing and kidnapping people in Colombia, they target military personnel and cops. I believe in peace, but a serious one....this peace process is a joke. We have been in Colombia through a lot of peace processes and they all end up with a stronger guerrilla that gets up of the negotiating table to continue their killing spree. Elections are coming and this current President Santos had promised to the people that elected him, that he would continue with the tough anti-terrorism policies that his predecessor had established; thats why he got elected in the first place....but once he took the presidency, he forgot about his commitment and became best friends with the now deceased Chavez. All of a sudden the guerrilla was not a terrorist group in his head, after 50 years of killing, drug dealing, kidnapping, etc... I am very afraid that Colombia will become another Venezuela or Cuba where no one has rights. The previous President we had (Alvaro Uribe), managed to hurt the guerrillas to the point that they were hiding in Venezuela and Ecuador and people felt and were safer in Colombia. He was not perfect, but we were a lot closer to a real peace with him. Now, in the middle of these peace dialogues with the new and trying to get reelected president, the guerrilla continues their attacks, killing police and soldiers and violating the international rules of conflict. Just this week, a FARC sniper killed a Colombian Army Captain from a house, 4 cops were violently ambushed and later shot in the back of their heads by this same terrorist organization; a little girl whose father is a Cop got also kidnapped and later released. These are not the things I like to post about Colombia, because as you know me, I always have great things to say about it and our people. We had made a lot of progress with Alvaro Uribe Velez , and I know most of you noticed the change of tone in the USA, when people referred to Colombia compared to 15 years ago..., but now Juan Manuel Santos wants to remain in power and give our country away to the guerrilla. I consider it an offense to the Colombian people and specially to the victims of the conflict , that he is still negotiating while they continue their killings and kidnappings. Thats the reason why I have been posting a lot on FB these days.
