To all my followers, we need your help - New Regulations could be coming out to remove certain allergens from perfumes, meaning a mass change in all market products incl your favourite High Street scents like Chanel no5! PLEASE HELP SMALL BUSINESSES AND PERFUME HOUSES FIGHT PROPOSED EU LEGISLATION Please help by signing this petition on the proposed ban of many fragrance oils and essential oils. As someone who is trained in Aromatherapy and is also in the process of setting up business in making cosmetic products this is a terrible worry. Many, if not all, of the ingredients the EU is proposing limitations or outright bans on are created in nature! As soap makers we are already have to follow extremely stringent regulations involving the labelling of our products and the submission of each list of ingredients to the Cosmetic Products Notification Portal. Each essential oil or fragrance oil we use has to be backed up by a Material Safety Data Sheet (some 4 pages long) listing the chemical composition of each ingredient. We are also required to state the presence of any known allergens in the product - these can be present in the oil or can be a by product of the chemical process of making soap - saponification. At the moment the EU Cosmetics Directive requires us to list 24 known allergens. This proposed legislation would take it up to 96 plus or see independent small business soap makers be banned from making products with the majority of fragrance/essential oils currently in use. In short this could mean the end of entrepreneur soap making business and as someone who is just accumulating the ingredients I need to begin a small business this is not good news. I am therefore asking for your help to sign a petition to hopefully prevent this further interference from the EU from taking place. Anyone who is setting up a small business who has any integrity wants to be compliant with the rules and regulations - however arduous a task this may be but the constant interference and nonsensical legislation proposed by the EU may force small businesses out of business before they even have a chance to take off. In addition, as you can see from the articles below, the art form of perfumery may be significantly changed - the difference between the big hitters in the perfume/cosmetics industry and people like myself is that they will be able to afford the reformulation and the economic fall-out that will occur if these plans go ahead. As for Aromatherapy, I hate to think what any changes to the status quo could bring. PLEASE read the two articles below and help protect small business and giant perfume houses alike by signing the petition.
