To all my friends, peers, compatriots, clients and fans (ha ha ha ha i slay me) who are at Summerfolk in Owen Sound tonight... have a wonderful weekend (which is usually a bankable guarantee). Months ago I was planning/hoping to be there so artistic director, folk god and lovely friend James Keelaghan had me curate A Pete Seeger Tribute Workshop/Concert for Sunday and help organize and eventually emcee the Songs From The Hat workshop as I did last year but wont be able to sample the fruits of my labours! A number of my closer music friends I was looking forward to hugging up and hanging with are all there. Damn it I designed the Motif, Poster, Logo and T-shirt this year but all for naught. I wont be able to hang out and fish for compliments which I never ever do. The foot and legs are just not healed enough or in good enough shape to endure and safely traverse the many terrains from site to hotel that a music festival brings. Yes it would have been around my 20th time at Summerfolk. Yes it was my last chance to NOT make this my first festival free summer in over 25 years. Yes I have an incredible build up of hugging energy that ordinarily on a weekend like this I would be throwing about with reckless abandon, willy nilly even... and its making me crantsy (crabby and antsy). I will try to be there in spirit though frankly I have failed miserably at the whole astral projection thing.. except once in New Orleans blazing on mushrooms and dancing with Ani Difranco while listening to a primal funk horn band which in turn made me dance for hours making me sweat a pleasant crawdad like odour which gave me the munchies. More of that another time. I want to be jealous and envious and hate you all just a little bit but... my knowing how happy you are with your bums on picnic benches and your feet in Georgian Bay all while listening backstage to some deeeelicious music makes me smile. Think of me... mention me during the Seeger Tribute and I promise to be with all yall next year. Foot willing! Bastards!!! yeah... i just cant be angry .
