To all my rodeo peeps..... At every rodeo I have been to for the most part. There is a secretary fee, the announcer gets paid, the fighters get paid, the barrel man gets paid, various staff gets paid. Everyone request a photographer to attend their rodeo or like event. Yet when I mention anything about paying the photographer at least something little it is always.....oh we can not charge any more or its not in our budget. I rely on 100% on sales. Like working on commission or waitress pay without the hourly rate. Yet I have to obtain and maintain the equipment needed, really freaking expensive. Put the man hours in involved just like running any other kind of business. Spend time working on the evenings and weekends, not knowing if I will actually get anything to support my family. Everyone wonders why a 8x10 is $20 from me? Add it up, trust me I do not make much if any off of the sales I have. Yet everyone wants free pictures, everyone wants to see their ride, everyone wants me there. Yet when it comes time for me to drop everything and go and shoot, no one wants to pay my worth. Get pissed at me for saying this but it is the truth. I would love to lower my prices but if I cant make it doing it the way I am doing it right now there is no way. Start paying a by the run fee just like you do with everything else to the photographer and prices will drop. Just like everyone else I have to pay fuel, card fees and well just like you. Except I have the monthly expense of the website, internet, phones, employees and everything else imaginable to be at the event. It just is not rodeos. It is just about anything. Photographer is a profession, not a charity. Treat them right.
