To all of my UNCP friends, I want to share with you a thought. Recently, Jesse Peters shared with us an article about a plan at the University of Florida, R-1 institution, to offer exclusive online programs, a plan that was voted off by the Department of Political Science. Many of us invest thoughts of how to make UNCP a more attractive place for students, and maybe you noticed our new web-site that tries to sell Pembroke as a fun place to study. We all know the hard core truth about how fun this place really is. So what can be our best selling points? Now, that we are facing an administration change, and I think the new leadership can move us to new and innovating places. I am thinking about increasing our online offering and matching UF. If a R-1 institution is considering online education, why wouldnt we do the same? For me, it is almost absurd to think of an institution of excellence as UF going in that path, but if they can, why cant we? If they are seriously considering this, why wont us? Some of the reasons mentioned in the article were UFs attempt to recruit more students, and this an institution with 50k students. I believe there is an opportunity for us now at this point. We can vote for a leadership with a stronger online orientation. What do you think about this? I will be happy to get your opinion.
