To all of our followers, we feel the need to share the progress and status at Seven Petals Dog Rescue. In the past year and 3 months we have rescued 200 dogs. For those of you that know us and have worked with us, it is amazing. We save more than many county rescues/shelters and humane societies, with almost no budget. Champaign County received 1.2 million in funds last year; we operated off of adoption fees, our own money, and a small amount of greatly-appreciated donations. With that, we have worked on a rescue facility, provided play rooms, toys, blankets, high quality food, treats, love, formal obedience training, a large fenced-in yard, and a clean and loving place for them to live. We have treated our rescues for giardia, coccidia, lice, fleas, ticks, heartworms, ringworms, roundworms, parvo, distemper, staph infections, seizures, etc. We have kept dogs alive that everyone else said would most certainly die. All the while, we let our dogs play with one another, rest in individual rooms, and even sleep with us at night. They are well cared for and loved beyond measure. We bring this up because at this time we are very frustrated and very discouraged. We never hear anything good. People only want to complain when they do not get their way or when they think they have a better way of doing things. We have an individual who has made complaints and bad mouthed us publicly because she did not receive the puppy she wanted. We opted to adopt them out as a pair as it is better for the puppies to stay together as brothers. We have been blamed for medical issues, sometimes by the very clinics that were supposed to have cured it and sometimes when it couldn’t possibly have been anything we did (or didn’t do). All we hear are complaints and false accusations, yet no one ever takes the time to write anything nice about us. What we need: we have almost $5,000 in medical debt for our special needs rescue dogs (yet people complain about adoption prices). We need funds to help cover medical costs, as we have yet to find a vet who is not incredibly overpriced. We need people to actually support us and share what good work we are doing with other people. We need volunteers that can be trusted to be left alone at the rescue without our presence to take some of the burden off, volunteers who want to do more than just play with puppies. Honestly, if we can get those three things (funds, positive sharing, and reliable volunteers), Seven Petals would not only survive, it would thrive. Without, Seven Petals cannot continue. We have absorbed a great burden and we did it because we love these innocent creatures. We have spent thousands out of our own pockets when funds run short, and our thanks is further unfounded criticism. We are absolutely changing our procedures at this time, but that is only one aspect - we need positive support. We are reaching out because we want to continue to have a positive effect in the lives of homeless dogs, but cannot do so without the support of caring people like you. If you have questions about what we are experiencing or about how you can help, please feel free to email us at sevenpetalsdogs@yahoo. We are more than happy to share our experiences and frustrations.
