To all our friends everywhere, we wish you a Happy New Year. May the blessings of the Lord be upon you according to Proverbs 10:22. The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. I am reminded of an individual who won the largest lottery payout that had ever been won up until that time. I think it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 340 million dollars. As I understand it, he was already a successful businessman. But now he has money to burn. I understand that he even gave large sums of money to churches out of his winnings. But as time passed and the story unfolded, there were numerous tragic events that took place in the mans life, and also in his family. I recall reading somewhere that this gentleman said that he would give it all back if it were possible because of the tragedy it had brought into his life. Whether I have all the facts of this story right or not, there is a point to be made here. If we have the favor and blessing of God, there is no tragedy or sorrow that accompanies it. While driving down the highway in the last few days, I have noticed the huge billboard signs posting the potential lottery winnings and enticing folks to play. One of them I saw last night was 172 million. The thought always crosses my mind that I could sure use that money and all the good that I could do with it for my family and for the work of God. But then I remember, my faith is not in the systems of this world and I must operate on a higher principle. If I were to give in to the temptation to play the lottery, I would violate that principle. And if I did play, I wouldnt know how to start. Someone would have to show me how. I have decided that I would rather have the favor of the Lord than all the wealth of this world.
