To all the Great Dane Breeders who attended The National. Deacon, my 5 month old puppy started with a wet choking noise twice this afternoon as if he was clearing his throat. Thankfully I was sitting with him and witnessed it. This is the first time he did this, as Ive been with him all day. We headed to the vet since they close soon and my preference would not be to see an ER Vet. His lungs are clear, no fever, and he is not lethargic. Given the circumstances, we are starting on Augmentin which is the human form of Clavamox and also much cheaper. We also will be starting him on a Hydrocodone cough medicine. I am grateful I witnessed his symptoms and caught it early. Thank you Jackie Van Delft for your post this AM. I may have dismissed it till later in the game. I am primarily posting as none of our babies are safe and I urge all of you to be watching your kids like hawks. Deacon was never at the show, just at our rental house. It had to come back in our shoes, clothes, etc. I truly am incredibly disappointed in our breed. For a person to show up with sick dogs and have the rest of our babies suffer as a result is incomprehensible. We have to all start doing better for the health of our furkids on all fronts. I pray no other dogs become sick and this stops. I pray for all that are sick have a speedy recovery.
