To all these dumb kids who are posting pictures under the sarcastic tag #ThanksMichelleObama: Shut the hell up. First of all, even if the food taste like garbage, a lot of kids only get one meal a day due to socioeconomic standing. Where is that meal? At school. Because their parents cant or wont provide food for them at home. So to them, it could taste like absolute anus, but hey...food. Second, the reason why the school lunch policy is cutting out fat, sodium, and sugars is because America is full of fatasses who mindlessly eat processed butter crap at home so maybe...just maybe...some nonfattening food will actually help you. If there wasnt an obesity crisis, we wouldnt have this program. Obesity is fixable. I can understand genetic scenarios that hinder people weightwise, but at the same time I know our consumerist culture is the driving force for obesity, that and the fact that fast food companies are shrewd enough to price their food low so that the people in my first point can buy food. It costs a lot to eat food that wont screw you over healthwise. TL;DR: The school lunch program may provides low quality food yet the program has merit because: A). feeding the poor student and B). fighting the obesity crisis.
