To any friends stressing over the pending electrical power price increases I want to pass this opportunity along. If you are still using significant incandescent lighting you might consider switching over to compact fluorescent lights (CFL), to slash your lighting power consumption. LED lights are now the ideal technical and ecological solution but even with Energy Maine subsidies it’s hard to get below $4. per lamp right now. Meanwhile CFL lamps are being dumped in the marketplace at fire sale prices as low as 25 cents apiece in multipacks. At that price payback can be very fast for a very small cash outlay. Just dispose of them responsibility at your local recycling depot or transfer station. Also if you hear of friends upgrading to LED lamps ask what they are doing with any retired CFLs. You can’t avoid the kilowatt cost without a significant investment but you can surely cut your usage on the cheap.
