To anyone considering buying/rescuing/adopting an animal. Please please PLEASE consider Long and Hard before you do!!! Think about the realities, the expense, and specifically the time involved. Do you have time to walk, run, exercise, train a dog? Can you afford the food, vet bills, doggie day care, training classes if needed?? While your intentions might be pure, if the reality is that you cant put in the time or effort, than please dont get a pet. A pet is a living breathing creature with needs and feelings and emotions. They are not something you test drive and get rid if when they do not meet your expectations. And if you dont have time for the first pet, please dont get another pet to keep him or her company!! If you dont have time for one, how can you have time for two? Sorry for the rant...my heart was broken today when I was at Baypath (my favorite place!!) and I was walking two dogs that went to forever homes only to be be returned months later, and then another dog whose owner just decided to surrender him not enough time after 6 years and yet another who ate the owners deck. Well, if you were tied up all day long with no excercise or kept in a crate or whatever wouldnt you want to be destructive? An average, healthy dog needs a minimum of an hour of excercise a day. A fenced in yard is NOT excercise unless you are out there with him throwing a ball, running, swimming, etcetera. Sorry all. I dont usually rant like this. Good intentions, while admirable, arent enough. You also have to have the time and dough and commitment! A dog needs to be trained and taught. It does t happen overnight. This happens quite often, And we see it all the time at the shelter, but for some reason today it bothered me more than normal. I dont know why. Ok. that is all. haha. Now Im going to pour a glass of wine Ps i love multiple animal households, the second pet reference was only that if you end up giving up you now leave two poor babies without homes....:(:(:(:(.
