To anyone on the fence, I highly recommend Darren Aronofskys Noah. Its not a perfect movie, but its deeply thoughtful, and ultimately very moving -- almost operatic. An extra bonus for anyone steeped in the Jewish tradition is the way it deploys midrash and intra-biblical allusion (in addition to Apocrypha) in the service of a reading of the story that, so far as I can tell, is utterly original. If you can overlook some of the blockbuster boilerplate, theres a lot to admire and think about.
